Craig McGill - JW Brands Ambassador

Craig McGill stands among Australia’s most renowned fishing guides and photojournalists and is widely recognised for his expertise in chasing big kingfish in the waters of Sydney. He has more than 45 years of fishing experience across Australia and also extensively in Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.

Craig’s guiding service, Fishabout Tours, has been in operation for nearly three decades and is widely regarded as Sydney’s premier fishing guide operation. He services around 700 clients each year including many well-known anglers and celebrities such as Allan Border, Jimmy Barnes, Mike Whitney, Michael Jeffery (Governor-General), Rex Hunt, Tetsuya Wakuda, Ernie Dingo, Matthew Hayden, Tim Farris (INXS) and Andrew Ettinghausen (ET).

McGill is an experienced fishing media personality. He has contributed to all of the major national fishing and boating magazines, as well as several regional publications. He also has a column in NSW Fishing Monthly magazine. Craig has appeared on many fishing and lifestyle television programs and has a regular segment on ABC radio’s The Big Fish. He also reported for the Hi Tide program on 2KY and the George & Paul Show on 2UE for 20 years. Craig also produced the highly successful DVD’s, Fishing Sydney Harbour, Fishing Sydney, Local Knowledge and Soft Plastic Lure Fishing. Fishing Sydney is currently Australia’s top-selling fishing DVD.

In addition to his guiding and media work, Craig supports the fishing community by sharing his knowledge at fishing club seminars and tackle shops. He also holds an ANSA Masters Award for tagging and lure casting. Additionally, many of the techniques and methods that Craig pioneered on Sydney Harbour are used by other harbour fishing guides and recreational anglers today – testimony to his contribution to recreational fishing.

Although Craig has consistent success on large kingfish, mulloway, luderick and a variety of pelagic species, he has a passion for chasing snag-dwelling species from small boats and canoes. He especially loves to use lures to target these fish in both estuary and freshwater habitats. Craig cites the legendary Vic McCrystal, Ron Calcutt, Rod Harrison and his grandfather as his fishing inspiration as a young lad.
