Andrew McGovern is one of Australia’s most recognised fishing journalists with more than 350 articles published in national magazines. Andrew has also authored two books, presented numerous fishing tactics DVDs, has a Tactics Column in Freshwater Fishing Australia magazine, and has consulted on several detailed fishing maps.

Andrew has been fishing the NSW South Coast, Snowy Mountains, Canberra, and Monaro regions for over 40 years where he cut his teeth and plied his trade in various sport fishing endeavours. He has also fished around the world in more than 14 countries. Some of his adventures include trekking the remote jungle streams of Thailand for blue mahseer, land-based game fishing from the remote rock ledges of New Zealand’s North Island, and travelling deep inside the Arctic Circle pursuing the magnificent Arctic char and monstrous lake trout.

McGovern is considered one of the country’s most innovative and competent anglers across a raft of fishing disciplines. He is equally comfortable targeting pelagic game fish on heavy tackle, ultra-light finesse lure casting, or bait fishing for a variety of bread and butter species.

Andrew’s vast fishing experience encompasses huge land-based kingfish from remote rock ledges, mulloway on high energy oceanic beaches, bream and flathead in estuaries and lakes, lure fishing for freshwater native species (Murray cod, bass, and golden perch), and using soft plastics for brown and rainbow trout in both lakes and rivers.
